Jenny Jarrett,
Rmt & Birth doula
I have always had a passion for helping others and have pursued this path with enthusiasm my entire life. After achieving my Kinesiology degree from Lakehead University, I then obtained my diploma in Massage therapy from The Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy. I have been a Registered Massage Therapist for 17 years. I love the holistic healing approach of massage therapy.
Throughout my massage practice I have been honoured when people shared their birth stories. I often wondered if the narrative could be changed so that women could feel more empowered giving birth. This led me to Doula School to become a certified birth doula in 2014. By becoming a Birth Doula I could gently influence the experience of families in birth. Now, I help them feel empowered, prepared and confident.
My supportive husband and I are currently being trained in parenting by our two daughters. My eldest was born in 2015, supported by my husband, two midwives, and a wonderful doula. In 2018, my second birthing experience was a valuable learning experience that deepened my empathy for the difficulty of decision making during labour.
While not working at my cozy home based clinic or supporting families, I can usually be found cheering on one of my kids at the rink, hiking our beautiful local trails, or camping at one of the many parks Nova Scotia has to offer.
