Rmt & Birth doula
I have always had a passion for helping others and have pursued this path throughout my entire life. After achieving my Kinesiology degree from Lakehead University, I then obtained my diploma in Massage therapy from The Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy. I have been a Registered Massage Therapist for 11 years. I love the holistic approach to healing through massage therapy. Throughout my practice I was honoured (and still am!) when people shared their birth stories with me. I wondered if the narrative could be changed so that women could feel more empowered giving birth. This led me to Doula Canada to become a certified birth doula in 2014. By becoming a birth doula I could gently influence the narrative and have a profound impact on someone's birth journey by helping them feel empowered prepared and confident. I also became a member of the Nova Scotia Doula Association at this time and currently serve on its board of directors.
Just after starting my certification process, I became pregnant with my first child. What a motivating factor to study all I could about birth and labour! My daughter was born in July 2015 with my husband, two midwives, and a wonderful doula by my side. I recently gave birth to a second daughter whose birth experience was a valuable learning experience that deepened my empathy for the difficulty of decision making during labour. It also reaffirmed for me the emotional, physical and spiritual challenges of pregnancy and labour. I feel honoured to be chosen to help women navigate their own birth journeys.
